Session proposals have now been accepted. Presenters will have received an email regarding the status of their proposals.

We are inviting speaker proposals for the OAME 2008 conference which will be held at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel in Richmond Hill on May 8, 9, and 10, 2008.

The theme of the conference is "This Path is Made by Walking” which honours the many and various paths we take on our different journeys in mathematics education. During the conference delegates will explore paths including differentiated instruction, assessment, mathematical processes, learning tools, curriculum connections, social justice, research, and professional development models. It is our hope that the conference will assist and encourage delegates as they move forward in their journey.

We would like you to consider presenting a session at the conference. If you would like to submit a proposal, please apply online at http://www.oame.on.ca/mcis/index.php by October 19, 2007. Session proposals should connect to one or more themes of the conference as well as reflect the vision of OAME/AOEM:

OAME envisions a learning environment where all students do, see, hear, and touch mathematics in a profound and meaningful way. Our association sees the classroom as a community where teachers and students work collaboratively to learn and value mathematics. In such a classroom, students engage in meaningful mathematical experiences through the use of concrete materials and manipulatives, visuals, technology, and other resources. Students build on their prior knowledge of key mathematical concepts and connect these concepts to their world. Teachers use a variety of strategies that accommodate different learning styles and use resources to develop the investigative process in mathematics. The learning of mathematics is supported through the active and ongoing involvement of students, parents, educators, and the community at large.

The program committee will review all applications and respond by Fall, 2007. The OAME 2008 organizing committee will waive the registration fee for one presenter per workshop session.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Texas Instruments Conference within a Conference
  • Project Showcase: Where Mathematical Literacy Meets Social Justice
  • Wine & Cheese events
  • OAME Awards Banquet
  • and much much more ...
